really nice concept. and it gives me some further ideas. like the bar on the top could change when you maximize a window so that the bar and the title bar of the window are no two seperate objects anymore. I generally think you could make more out of the desktop than just to store icons and free flying widgets..
Sorry, but I don't know much about Mac OS. So this are all free ideas from myself. Or better the answer to the question "What would Windows look like if I developed the UI."
I'm also not really into macs. And no, I'll keep my windows ^^ there are just a view things I would like to have my way. But that's still a bit complicated so far..
Have you checked out Linux before? It's got alot of things from both Windows and Mac in it plus it's free (usually). There's alot of Linux OSs to choose from though (Ubuntu & Fedora are popular ones)
Yes, I tried out Kubunto Netbook Remix already. It has a pretty cool desktop environment that replaces the applications menu. It also inspired my desktop idea I uploaded to dA (if you didn't see it already).
There are just some problems why I can't use it on my Netbook: - It's slow, not smooth (that desktop menu) - WLAN chip of my Netbook is not supported by Linux (and I'm not skilled enough to use the Windows driver there) - I use some Windows Applications like Windows Live Mess. and Mail (file transfer with every not original messenger is extremely slow), Photoshop (gimp unfortunately is no alternative to me for web graphics and other GFX stuff) and I like Office 2007/2010 ^^
I really thought about using Linux but there are too many negative points why I can't use it.
Oh and if I finally get my WLAN chip work on Linux I would use special netbook versions like Moblin. That's also a concept I really like.
If you look for a program called 'WINE' (Windows Emulator) it can run most Windows application in Linux (unfortunately it can't run Adobe CS3 & CS4 yet >.<). If you look for a distro that's a bit less graphics intensive it might run a bit better on your netbook as well.
Certain drivers do have problems with Linux distros, but usually that's only a problem with a few, If you try a different distro it might not have the same problem ^^

I don't personally like Macs (I find the whole company very hypocritical) but it seems like you should check one out sometime
(I can't believe I just suggested a Mac to someone, never doing that again >.<)
